VOA - American Rajiv Shah has been sworn in as the new chief of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). American Secretary of State Hillary Clinton led the ceremony¹. She said she believes Mr. Shah will be the leader to bring the change that USAID needs. Mr. Shah said the agency needs to continue to spread² the hopefulness of  the American

dream around the world. Earlier Thursday, Mr. Shah spoke to the Voice of America, he said successful development can only happen³ if the country served is committed and invested in the idea.

1. ceremony (n) a public or religious occasion that includes a series of formal or traditional actions: nghi thức, nghi lễ

- The fire rapidly spread to adjoining buildings: Hỏa hoạn nhanh chóng lan rộng đến các tòa nhà bên cạnh.

3. happen (v) to take place as the result of sth: xảy ra, diễn ra
- Just plug it in and see what happens: Cắm điện vào và chờ xem.
- What happens if nobody comes to the party? Chuyện gì sẽ xảy ra nếu không ai đến tham dự buổi tiệc?
- Accidents like this happen all the time: Tai nạn lúc nào cũng có thể xảy ra.

Ông Rajiv Shah đã tuyên thệ nhậm chức Giám đốc Cơ quan Phát triển Quốc tế Hoa Kỳ (USAID). Ngoại trưởng Mỹ Hillary Cliton đã cử hành lễ nhậm chức của ông. Bà Clinton bày tỏ niềm tin rằng ông Shah với cương vị người lãnh đạo sẽ mang lại những thay đổi cần thiết cho USAID. Ông Shah cho hay cơ quan này cần phải tiếp tục lan tỏa niềm hi vọng - một phần của “giấc mơ Mỹ” - ra khắp thế giới. Sáng thứ năm, ông Shah cũng phát biểu với Đài tiếng nói Hoa Kì rằng sự phát triển thành công chỉ xảy ra khi quốc gia nằm trong chương trình hoạt động của USAID được cơ quan này cam kết giúp đỡ và đầu tư theo ý tưởng trên.
